A résumé, also spelled resume, is a document used by a person to present their backgrounds and skills. The sole purpose of a resume is to highlight your career accomplishments that are related to the job you are trying to get so that you can get an interview. It's usually shorter than a CV. (In academia (= universities) you have to list not only education and work experience, but also all publications, While this may fit on one page in younger years, older, more experienced people have much longer CVs.)

objective

Under your personal data the resume is followed by an objective where you state your professional aim.

work experience

A resume may put your work experience in a reverse chronological order; starting from the latest experience and moving chronologically backwards through your previous jobs. Thus you can show how you gaind experience, while illustrating career growth over time.

If there are any gaps in your career, you can hide them more easily in a resume.

skills and abilities

This section can help you demonstrate competence in areas not otherwise outlined in your academics or experience sections.

Focus on skills most relevant to your desired position/career field. Skills might include:

  • Languages (note level of fluency)
  • Computer skills
    • list programs and languages you are able to use
  • Other field specific areas, such as techniques, instrumentation

Personal statement

A personal statement is essentially an essay which is written in response to a question or questions on a graduate or professional school application form which asks for some sort of sustained response.

Some applications ask for more specific questions than others. There is no set formula to follow in shaping your response, only choices for you to make, such as whether you should write an essay that is more autobiographically focused or one that is more professionally focused.

Write your Own Curriculum Vitae

My name is Jeff. I was born in Hersbruck, Germany on Oct 16, 1996. I started school at the age of 6, which I attended till I was 16 years old.

Then I changed to college and now I'm in my last year. I hope to finish school next year.

My two favourite subjects at school are Englisch and History. The subject I like least is Economics. I’ve been learning English for 8 years now and I think I can understand it quite well . In our lessons we also hear something about Britain and America and I would like to visit these countries when I've left school.

I have many interests outside school. I play football and tennis and I'm quite good at swimming.
